My name is Tracy Flynn Spampinato, and 2017-2018 is my 19th year of teaching!

Education and background:

I received my BA in German, Spanish, and European Studies from Canisius College, in Buffalo, New York, and my MSEd from Canisius in Secondary Education. I am certified in NY for 7-12 German and Spanish, and in NC for K-12 German and Spanish.
I studied abroad with AFS-Year Program to Austria when I was 17, deferring college for one year for this experience.
In college I studied in Spain at the Universidad de Oviedo, and lived in Dortmund and Essen in Germany.

In the summer of 2010 I traveled to Berlin, where I took part in a 2 week course just for German teachers at the Goethe Institute!

I have taught all grades 4-12. I have taught all levels of German, from 1 to AP, and levels 1-2 of Spanish. I have taught in 2 districts in Buffalo, NY, and taught German at a high school in Charlotte, and have been teaching in Wake County, at Wakefield HS since 2005.

Since coming to Wake County, I have become involved with the Foreign Language Association of North Carolina (FLANC), and have been very involved with our local German Teachers of Wake County Professional Learning Team. I am also a member of the AATG (American Assoc. of Teachers of German). At Wakefield I've been a member of the Technology committee, and have been the German Club Advisor since it's inception in 2005. I am also a Junior Girl Scout Troop Leader for my daughter's girl scout troop!

Interests and Hobbies:

My main interests are teaching German, and learning anything I can about German history, language, and culture. I am also an advocate for all students learning a language other than English, and believe strongly that all students, regardless of career path, should be studying a second or even third language in addition to English. My experience in other schools/state(s) informs this opinion; it can be done successfully! That being said, I am passionate about students having access to foreign language study, and am especially passionate about students learning German!

I also have a husband, an amazing 10 year old daughter, who is a 5th grader @ Millbrook Elementary School, and a 6 year old daughter, as well as a dog, so when I'm not doing something for school, I am spending time with them!
